Nothing pisses me off more than dudes who mix arty, smart-guy geek shit into hardcore. It’s a recipe for horseshit. You don’t have to be a straight-forward wigger or a thrash-enthusiast, but you also don’t need to write songs based on literary themes from predictable, punk-friendly writers. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what Between Earth and Sky is all about. Teh band is (and I fucking quote) “a collection of five individuals bound together by a love for the writings of Ernest Becker and Samuel Beckett and endless amounts of vegan food at Vancouver’s Bo Kong Vegetarian Restaurant.’ Fucking great.
The sad thing is, I really want to like this band. I mean, it’s the singer from Trial and a dude from Catharsis. You’d imagine that shit would rule. But literary faggotry aside, the music itself sounds like weak ass hardcore. It’s neither heavy, nor emotive. It’s just kind of there. I don’t imagine that anyone with a sack or good taste in core will like this, but then again, they’ve only made one song available for listening, so there is some hope I guess, but not really. Barf.
Judge for yourself HERE.
