Ever notice how hella core bands have the same song titles? Ever wonder who deserves to have a title that’s hella pissed more? Well, we do. While I’m temped to look into how many bands have used the phrase “crush your enemies” or one of its derivatives, I think it may be best to go down a road less traveled. So today, we’re focusing on the title “Hopeless.” That’s a heavy one. So who’s duking it out? 108, Throwdown and Death Before Dishonor. Let the most miserable band win.
108:
This is from the band’s forward-thinking Holyname LP. Personally it’s one of my favorite tracks from the album. On the plus side, Vic’s guitar licks are insane. On the negative side, it’s almost a little too introspective-even for 108. Rob’s singing about wisdom for the wise and of course Govinda. So it’s not as self-loathing as one would necessarily like. Though there is a flute solo toward the end.

Throwdown:
Taken from Haymaker, this song is as brutal as they come. There’s hella swears, breakdowns and a disregard for saving what’s left of a shithead. On the plus side, the vocalist yells “bitch.” On the negative side, it might be about losing a girlfriend or some shit. Which is lame.

Death Before Dishonor:
Taken from the True Till Death album, this song is hands down the most hopeless sounding of all three bands. The production sucks and it’s not exactly the most original sounding of songs, but it’s got that Boston angst that can’t be ignored. On the plus side, it makes me want to kill people. On the negative side, I can’t say that it’s as miserable sounding as Blood For Blood’s least misanthropic song.

And the winner is: Throwdown
There are just too many swears in this song to ignore. The dude yells out “Bitch!” during a breakdown. C’mon, man. You kidding me?

Just my two cents: But Blood for Blood takes the cake as far as hopelessness goes. The entire Spit My Last Breath album is nothing but despair, nihilism and hopelessness.
There’s a lot of “Stand your grounds”.
this should be a weekly thing
