BROOKLYN BLACK METAL SYMPOSIUM THIS DECEMBER

Hideous Gnosis is a “Black Metal Theory Symposium,” set to take place in Brooklyn this Fall. Various black metal enthusiasts will be giving readings, showing, art, crying, etc. A forty year old with eye-liner may be a little unnecessary and nerdy, but there is a level of sincerity that lets them get away with it (ie. being left completely alone). It’s at least a tried and true goth staple. What sucks is when metal is co-opted by wannabe academic nerds. Someone who wants to quote Bataille – in the press release – and act like you should be impressed. Cause it’s “deep.” Yeah, we get it, we went to college, too. Like, you read that and probably something by Aleister Crowley. You know who Anton La Vey is, and that’s really impressive for a 14 year old.

In all fairness,  for this particular geek-out, there may be potential for some blackened insights. With the bros Hunter Hunt-Hendrix (Liturgy) and Brandon Stosuy (Show No Mercy) kicking knowledge, there remains hope that this otherwise conceptual nightmare may be relatively engaging.

Those so inclined can commune with this coven of bed-wetters to join hands in self-pity at Public Assembly December 12, 2009.

Hideous Gnosis Speakers and Topics:

Erik Butler, “The Counter-Reformation in Stone and Metal: Spiritual Substances”

Hunter Hunt-Hendrix, TBA

Nicola Masciandaro, “Anti-Cosmosis: Black Mahapralaya”

Benjamin Noys, “‘Remain true to the earth!’: Remarks on the Politics of Black Metal”

Joseph Russo, TBA

Anthony Sciscione, TBA

Niall Scott, “Black Confessions and Absu-lution”

Steven Shakespeare, “The light that illuminates itself, the dark that soils itself: blackened notes from Schelling’s underground”

Aspasia Stephanou, “Black Metal and Evil”

Brandon Stosuy, TBA

Evan Calder Williams, “The Headless Horsemen”

Scott Wilson, “BAsileus philosoPHOrum METaloricum”

Thanks for spreading the word and churning the black cauldron.

  2. You’re a twat with a passion for ignorance, but thanks for the notice.

Academics? Everybody hates us, we don’t care!

  3. “Everybody hates us, we don’t care!”

    Sounds like crying to me.

  4. Not crying, laughing, Cameron, especially at those Big Boys that don’t cry. But I’m sure that’s not you. Why not come to the event and give us a cry. Weeping can be beautiful, give it a go.

    cheers,

    scott

  5. Big boys can cry, too. They just don’t arrange their wardrobe around it, or turn it into a metaphysical crisis.

  7. A symposium participant made a potentially extremely shrewd comment in regard to this post: “I think Chronic Youth was just upset by the absence of weed-related puns in our program. I guess I’ll change my topic and just talk about Bongzum and Hemperor.”

Have to say I absolutely LOVE the idea that black metal theory might help accelerate the transition of the stoner vs. non-stoner distinction within metal-culture into a *healthy*, gaping wound.

That stuff does have a way of blunting Bataille’s hook, no?

THE OBJECT OF ECSTASY IS THE ABSENCE OF RESPONSE FROM THE OUTSIDE. THE INEXPLICABLE PRESENCE OF MAN IS THE RESPONSE THAT THE WILL GIVES ITSELF, SUSPENDED OVER THE VOID OF AN UNINTELLIGIBLE NIGHT. THIS NIGHT, FROM ONE END TO THE OTHER, HAS THE IMPUDENCE OF A HOOK.

  8. Don’t snivel, it’s pathetic.

And, yes, your program could use more pot references.

  10. just-us - knowledge is distinct from wisdom - neither of which you obtain from reading books or listening to academics - but you won’t get if from pitying philosophers either.

  11. Think about this website. The writers use “fuck” and “dude” in things. You could easily level them. I was expecting more from you homos.

  12. Whatever, homos.

  13. LOL!

“With the bros Hunter Hunt-Hendrix (Liturgy) and Brandon Stosuy (Show No Mercy) kicking knowledge, there remains hope that this otherwise conceptual nightmare may be relatively engaging.”

those two monkeys are more overrated than…sliced bread.

Brandon comes off as a nice guy, he just knows how to deal with people. He’s not a “bro”. he’s a self serving dipshit.

and Don’t get me started on Hunter Hendrix Hunting the Hunted, nice pseudonym btw. Transcendental black metal? your kidding right? That guy is obviously the prey of his own bullshit. Fuk that pretty boy retard. If i even go to this garbage. These two dunce fuks are the ones i will make SURE to skip.
